Project 9: 3D Hollow Form Object

Image
After creating our own unique hollow 3D objects, my partner, Odin, and I went on to try and find a way to hybridize our two separate objects into one new form. My Objects Partner's Objects My Sketches Partner's Sketches Final Model 3D Object     We ended up using Odin's poly object as the base of our shape and mixed in two of my own objects. Using my twisted pyramid, we connected it to the base of Odin's poly object in order to give it some support like structures. Instead of closing/capping Odin's object, we instead stuck my twisted tree-like object at the top to make it resemble that of a drill. And in the end, we have this rocket ship-like form as our final hybrid.

Project 8: Papercraft Objects: Final Revisions

Image
Revised Final Template Final Renders I ended up using a type of paper that someone had recommended me. I forgot the name but I believe it is also used in construction. But this paper/fabric is not easily ripped and becasue of this it ended up being perfect for my final fan. (From right to left it says) Canada (Current Home), Hong Kong (Place of Birth), Opal (Birthstone), Day 3 (Birth Date), October (Birth Month), Year 2003 (Birth Year), Yin (Yin/Yang Force), Water Sheep (Chinese Element/Zodiac) I ended up listening to my classmates and making the section tha connects all the sticks together a simple uncapped cylinder. I also decorated the outer stick of the fan with my Chinese name (Pronouced Zhang Xiao Qi).

Project 7: Papercraft Objects: First Prototype

Template Folded Final     In my refinement, I will be changing the shapes of the fan sticks to resemble the more traditional Chinese hand fan. I will make the first and last stick wider than the middle ones while also making sure it slowly tapers down. I will also be trying to thin out the fan sticks by folding/gluing a few strips of paper to make the middle sticks so that the overall fan will be thinner and can be held in one hand. Once I have changed the overall shape of the fan, I should be able to cut out and glue the fabric part of the fan together.

Project 5/6. Papercraft Objects: Samples/Research

Project #5 is all about planning for the 3D real-life paper model that we will construct for our next class. Using Rhinoceros, we created a minimum of 8 separate 3D pieces and proceeded to unfold them into 2D templates.  Form 1:      3 Cylinders varying in size to replicate a paint bottle. Form 2/3:      3 decagon pillars varying in size to replicate the bottle portion of a soap dispenser. 3 cylinders varying in size to replicate the lid and pump of a soap dispenser.  Form 4      1 hexagon pillar and 1 cylinder to replicate an incense holder that I own. 1 cylinder to replicate an incense stick. Form 5      1 hollowed-out rectangular prism to replicate a bookshelf. Form 6      2 hollowed-out cylinders to replicate the lipstick holder and lid. 1 slanted-ended cylinder to replicate the lipstick. Form 7/8      1 round-ended rectangular prism and 1 hollowed-out cylinder to...

They liked the fantastical element and story that they created after looking at my object. So, because of that, I made my composition depict a story with the scene of the arrows being created and tested. Someone also suggested that having the rose replace the feather of the arrows would make more sense as an arrow. Because of that, I thought it would be interesting if I could have the two different types of arrows present.     Remix culture is essentially just mixing/combining two or more objects to create a new object. Since I had decided to mashup roses with a bow and arrow, I believe that my project counts as re...

Project 2. Mesh Mashup: Concept Generation

Image
This weeks project is to create a minimum of ten pieces of remixed objects. A Rose By Any Other Name - Bow and Rose Arrow Head     I decided to replace the arrowheads with roses. This was because I liked the idea of how a sharp and deadly weapon is made useless after adding a beautiful and fragile flower. While at the same time I was able to make the sharp and thorny roses become unthreatening by combining it with a weapon. So, I did this for the irony. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2119809 (Bow) https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3941211 (Arrow) https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2401407 (Rose) Tea Time - Bell Teacups     The bells are used as teacups because I have associated London with tea and the Big Ben since I was a kid. So, I used the bells to signify the bells ringing when it's tea time. Very stereotypical of me. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2825129 (Bell) https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2197163 (Plates) Fan Wings - Plane With Fa...
